Overview
What happens during pregnancy and birth can have important lifelong implications for the health of both mothers and babies. In 2020, 4.9% of all women who gave birth identified as being Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. These 14,384 women gave birth to 14,605 babies. Of all babies born, around 1 in 16 (6.2% or 18,228) were Indigenous (based on the Indigenous status of the baby).
