Indigenous households
An Indigenous household is any household with at least one person of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander origin living in it.
In 2016, there were 263,037 Indigenous households. They had an average of 3.2 people per household (Table PC 1).

Note: An Indigenous household is any household that had at least one person of any age as a resident at the time of the Census who identified as being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander origin.

Among Indigenous households in 2016:
- three-quarters (75%) were one-family households:

31% were a couple family with children

16% were a couple family with no children

26% were a one-parent family

2% were another type of one-family household

- 5% were multiple-family households
- 6% were group households
- 15% of households had only one person (Figure PC 6).
Indigenous households were less likely than other households to be made up of only one person (15% compared with 25%).
