Employment

Employment is important not only to income and economic security, but to physical and mental health as well. Problems finding or keeping employment can have broader impacts on living conditions and opportunities for the individual, their family and the wider community. Indigenous employment is the focus of 2 of the targets in the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.

Increasing the proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 25–64 who are employed to 62%, and increasing the proportion aged 15–24 in employment, education or training to 67%, by 2031, are 2 of the targets in the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.
