Indigenous-specific primary health care

Information on organisations funded by the Australian Government under its Indigenous Australians’ Health Programme is available through the national Key Performance Indicators (nKPI) and Online Services Report (OSR) data collections.

In 2020–21, among the 191 Indigenous-specific primary health care services reporting to the OSR:

  • 454,000 clients were cared for
  • there was an average of 1 contacts and 7.8 episodes of care per client.

For more information on the OSR data collection, see OSR – introduction.

  • At June 2021, 215 organisations reported to the nKPI collection. Results show that:
  • 39% of the estimated resident Indigenous population were Indigenous regular clients of organisations reporting to the nKPI collection.
  • Among regular clients with type 2 diabetes, 55% had a Chronic Disease Management Plan and 64% had their blood pressure recorded in the last 6 months.

For more information on the nKPI data collection, see nKPI – introduction.
