Target 5

Target 5: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students achieve their full learning potential

By 2031, increase the proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (age 20-24) attaining year 12 or equivalent qualification to 96 per cent.

  • Number of First Nations people aged 20-24 years old who have attained a school qualification of Year 12 or equivalent, or equivalent (non-school qualification at Certificate level III or above based on the Australian Qualifications Framework).

  • Proportion (%) of First Nations people aged 20-24 years old who have attained a school qualification of Year 12 or equivalent, by sex and over time.

  • Proportion (%) of non-Indigenous people aged 20-24 years old who have attained a school qualification of Year 12 or equivalent, over time.

  • Geography based on place of usual residence.

  • Non-school qualifications at Certificate level III or above based on the Australian Qualifications Framework include Certificate Level III or IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma, Bachelor Degree, Graduate Diploma/Certificate or a Postgraduate Degree.

  • Data excludes overseas visitors and people for whom Indigenous status was not stated.

  • Data excludes people for whom information on highest year of school completed and non-school qualification attainment was not stated or inadequately described.

  • Data for 2021 was analysed by the AIHW using ABS TableBuilder. Data for 2016, 2011 and 2006 was sourced from a custom data request provided by the ABS (ABS 2021).

  • Data have been randomly adjusted by the ABS to protect confidentiality. No reliance should be placed on small numbers.
