Overview

Childhood is an important time for healthy development, learning and establishing the foundations for future wellbeing. It is also a time of vulnerability during which children have the right to live in safety and be protected from harmful influences and abuse. Children are defined as aged 1–14 in this section, but statistics are presented for children aged 2–14 or 5–14 in some cases depending on data availability.
